At the Hilton Harrisburg, about 200 attendees gathered to celebrate the most powerful people in the commonwealth as part of City & State Pennsylvania’s annual Power 100 list.

The event, hosted by ABC27’s Dennis Owens (a City & State advisory board member), included remarks from state Senate President Pro Tempore Kim L. Ward, state House Speaker Joanna McClinton and Akbar Hossain, secretary of policy and planning within the Office of the Governor.

Hossain told the story of his family’s history and journey to the United States, admitting he didn’t think he would end up getting a higher education or going into politics, let alone ending up in the state Capitol. He said his success has much to do with the priorities and policies of the power players “in rooms like this,” and he’s hopeful to continue to create opportunities for the next generation.
