Connecting Health Professionals and Legislators

This is one of the most dynamic times in the history of the healthcare industry. Pandemic-era federal policies around Medicaid have ended, meaning that more than 1.3 million Pennsylvanians must complete a renewal over the next year to make sure they are still eligible. Additionally, the Commonwealth faces a projected shortage of physicians and other providers and health professionals, which may continue to adversely impact hospitals and health systems, as well as patient access and quality of care. At the same time, we are on the cusp of converging and accelerating breakthroughs in treatment, care delivery, and population health. Event panelists will explore how organizations across the healthcare ecosystem can work together — and with partners in state government — to address challenges and ensure equitable access to healthcare amid this changing landscape

Panel 1: Innovation in Healthcare

With pandemic-era Medicaid policies ending, Pennsylvania's 3.7 million Medicaid recipients must complete a renewal over the next year to make sure they are still eligible. More than one-third of this group were maintained throughout the pandemic due to the continuous coverage requirement – just one of the obstacles to providing meaningful advancements in healthcare to our most vulnerable residents by treating ailments and the root causes of poor health. This panel will explore how companies can look beyond health care to support people on their journey from wellness to resilience – and the benefits that all stakeholders derive from ongoing efforts to ensure equitable access to healthcare amid this changing landscape.

Panel 2: Healthcare Workforce

Pennsylvania faces a “mounting shortage” of physicians and healthcare providers —perhaps most notably in primary care fields. If not solved, these shortfalls will impact the entire healthcare ecosystem, with patients bearing the brunt. Medical schools play a vital role in our healthcare system – not only building the pipeline of future providers, but also preparing providers for the future. Panelists will discuss medical education in the Commonwealth, including how universities and government partners can work together to ensure a robust, resilient, and diverse pipeline of health professionals.
