Pennsylvania, with its abundant fossil energy resources, is a leading supplier of natural gas, coal, refined petroleum products, and electricity to the nation. The Inflation Reduction Act is expanding these resources, bringing an estimated $270 million of investment in large-scale clean power generation and storage to Pennsylvania between now and 2030. Thanks to funding from the Investing in America Agenda, the U.S. Department of Energy has made more than $491 million in the past year available to state and local governments to invest in energy efficiency and grid resilience.

The PA Energy Summit will provide multiple opportunities to listen to and interact with influential politicians, producers, and pundits about the key issues affecting how we produce, distribute, and use energy to provide jobs and stimulate the economy.

Future of Energy in Pennsylvania

As one of the top energy-producing states, Pennsylvania has a key role to play in the nation's energy future. The state’s private and public sectors are in a position to increase production, technological improvements, and employment levels thanks to initiatives and efforts to combat climate change through greenhouse gas reduction. This panel will focus on the state’s energy priorities for the near future and the long term, including:

  • How have recent microgrid projects and proposals led to the resilience of the state's energy infrastructure?
  • Who are the leaders and what are the projects to watch to best understand what energy production and delivery systems will look like both short- and long-term?
  • What is the latest on the Shapiro administration's appeal of the RGGI ruling?

Pennsylvania Energy: Impact, Economic Development + Workforce

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, by the end of 2022, there were almost 275,000 Pennsylvania workers employed in the energy sector. Across the state, 45% of the electric power generation workforce was in wind, solar, and hydroelectric, while Pennsylvania’s natural gas and oil producers paid out more than $40 billion in wages and contributed more than $75 billion to the commonwealth’s economy. This panel will spotlight how and where jobs and business opportunities are being created, including:

  • How does the energy industry help promote economic and workforce development and facilitate investments in energy efficiency?
  • How are companies and educational institutions meeting the soaring demand for skilled workers?
  • How are programs like the Justice40 Initiative, which aims to ensure Federal agencies deliver at least 40% of the overall benefits of climate, clean energy, affordable and sustainable housing, clean water, and other investments to disadvantaged communities, helping to drive both job creation and community improvement?
