WNBA Poll Results: Let the Freedom ring

The results are in: Readers want the Freedom to ring in Philadelphia. 

Online polls – and sportsbooks – have revealed that the Philadelphia Freedom is the leading favorite for the city’s potential professional women’s basketball team name. 

Nearly a week after posting, City & State’s poll shows nearly 40% of 345 respondents choosing Freedom, far above any other option. Respondents liked Revolution (10%), Rage (7.5%) and Belles (7%) as well, with plenty of personal suggestions coming into our inbox, too. 

The Rage was a natural option for those looking to honor the ABL team, led by Dawn Staley, that used to play in Philly.

Our results resemble that of Axios Philadelphia’s poll, which had nearly half of respondents saying the WNBA team should be called the Freedom. In the same poll, Belles came in second with 31%. 

Philly’s team won’t take the court until 2030, but as of now, there is no shortage of Philadelphians who want to make Freedom a choice.
