What are your priorities for improving economic and workforce development?

Our priorities for improving economic and workforce development in Greater Philadelphia focus on three key areas:

Innovation: Enhance the region's competitive position by promoting key industries like life sciences, advanced manufacturing, and technology.

Regional Mobility: Improve physical connectivity globally, nationally, and regionally through infrastructure advocacy and developing a modern, multimodal transportation system.

Talent: Strengthen the pipeline of diverse technology talent by connecting workforce leaders to attract, develop, and retain a robust workforce for current and future regional needs.

How is the Chamber working toward this goal?

The Chamber serves as a convener and connector between the region’s businesses and workforce, fostering cross-sector partnerships, guiding career development, and leveraging public and private funding to promote regional economic growth. Through Select Greater Philadelphia, we help companies achieve their vision by facilitating growth in a region that is connected, collaborative, and accessible to the world.

The Chamber also recently launched a new regional talent attraction campaign, Stay for Philly, and is in the midst of creating a regional economic development plan to generate more middle-wage jobs with support from Pew and leaders of five key economic and workforce development organizations.

What are the key challenges to expanding economic and workforce development?

We are dedicated to closing the gap between the skills that employers need and the skills that workers possess. The Chamber's Stay for Philly campaign and dedicated microsite, StayforPhilly.com, is one example.

The site features a comprehensive overview of the region’s vast career opportunities and unsurpassed quality of live amenities, including insights on the region’s leading technology and life sciences industries, excellence in all levels of education, access to quality medical care, and endless entertainment as well as an employer toolkit to support local companies in delivering the top reasons for relocating here to talent.
