Q&A with L. Frank Igwe

Founder and President of Moravia Health

How has Moravia and its mission changed since its founding in 2012?

Since its founding in 2012, Moravia Health has evolved from a traditional home care provider into a more comprehensive, patient-centered healthcare organization focused on improving quality of life and independence for the communities we serve. While our core mission has always been rooted in compassionate care, our growth has allowed us to expand beyond basic home health services into a broader continuum of support that addresses both clinical and personal needs.

Over the years, we have strengthened our commitment to culturally competent care, workforce development, and more coordinated service delivery to better meet the changing needs of patients and families. What began as a mission to provide reliable care at home has grown into a larger vision of empowering individuals to age with dignity, recover with confidence, and receive personalized care where they feel most comfortable.

At every stage of our growth, our mission has remained consistent: putting people first. What has changed is the scale and depth with which we can deliver on that promise.

What are Moravia's areas of focus in the short term and the long term?

In the short term, Moravia Health is focused on strengthening operational excellence, expanding access to high-quality home-based care, and continuing to invest in our workforce. This includes caregiver recruitment and retention, improved training, and the integration of systems that enhance communication, scheduling, and overall care coordination.

We are also focused on building infrastructure that can support growing demand while ensuring patients continue to receive consistent, personalized care.

In the long term, our focus is centered on sustainable growth and becoming a leading force in home-based healthcare. This includes expanding service lines, deepening partnerships with health systems and payers, and developing innovative care models that support aging in place and reduce unnecessary hospitalizations. Our goal is not only to grow, but to improve how care is delivered across the continuum.

How is Moravia positioning itself to best serve Pennsylvania's increasing senior citizen population?

Moravia Health is positioning itself to meet Pennsylvania’s growing senior population by building a care model centered on aging in place—helping seniors remain safe, independent, and supported in their homes for as long as possible.

As demand increases, we are expanding access to reliable in-home care while strengthening clinical coordination between caregivers, families, and healthcare providers. This ensures care is not only consistent, but responsive as needs change over time.

We are also investing in workforce training and expansion so caregivers are prepared to support a wide range of aging-related needs, from daily living assistance to chronic condition management. Cultural competency and continuity of care remain central to building trust with seniors and their families.

Ultimately, our focus is simple: meet seniors where they are with the right level of care at the right time, while preserving dignity and quality of life.

What are Moravia's key staffing challenges and how are you working to overcome them?

Like much of the home-based care industry, our primary staffing challenges include workforce availability, retention, and the increasing complexity of care needs.

At Moravia Health, we are addressing this through multiple strategies. We are strengthening recruitment pipelines through community partnerships and improving onboarding and training pathways to make it easier to enter the field. We are also focused heavily on retention by improving communication, scheduling stability, and ongoing education so caregivers feel supported and valued.

Culture is also a major priority. Caregiving is deeply personal work, and we are intentional about creating an environment where staff feel respected, heard, and connected to the mission behind their work. Through initiatives like Moravia Cares (our nonprofit arm), we extend that commitment beyond operations and into the communities we serve. At the same time, we are leveraging smarter workforce tools to reduce administrative burden so caregivers can focus more on patients.

Ultimately, our approach is to attract the right people, support them well, and build a workplace where they can grow over the long term within Moravia Health.
